New Year – New Perspectives

Posted: January 15, 2008 by April Watkins in Issues, Our Government, Politics

This entry is the first for 2008 after a lengthy hiatus.  I am glad to be joining you again as a forum to share thoughts on issues that, at first may seem too far removed to be important to you and your family, but upon further inspection reveal the true impact on average Joes like us.   To me…politics is a game of chess, an expensive game of chess with lots of unsavory characters, but a game in which we are all forced to play in or play to.  Decisions made by the leaders we choose will have dramatic effects on our families, our incomes, our taxes, our ability to live free with “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Let’s jump into 2008 with a promise to each other to pay attention to these boring political proceedings so that we can have a real voice in our governance.   Here are some tips:

  • Don’t just vote for the same old party you always have.  Look at the competition.
  • Both the Democratic and Republican parties have been hijacked by their extreme elements, leaving the moderates with a small voice.  Demand to be heard in your party.
  • Wade carefully through the rhetoric, the dirty smears and find the truth.  This is a messy business.
  • Put pen to paper and see how Pols plans would affect your business or home.
  • Talk to your family, your friends, your acquaintances – let them know what issues YOU are concerned about.
  • Avoid the personality contests, and stick to talking about the issues.  Then ask, “Who’s onboard with my belief on that issue?”

In essence, put the fire under the campaigns to prove to you a well-thought plan has been developed – not simply great speeches filled with promises.

Together let’s find out the details…because for all of us regular Americans…that’s why it matters.
